    Progress in Parenting

I haven’t listened to the latest parenting podcast. I haven’t read the most recent hit how-to book on “being the best mom ever”. And I haven’t scrolled through the numerous posts on social media about why moms do (or don’t) have “mom guilt”, although I have certainly seen them before. And none of these are bad, in fact I’m sure many are really encouraging and insightful and I would like to catch up on it someday. But see, that’s the thing. I just don’t have time for that right now. All I know is that I’m on this rollercoaster called Motherhood that has it’s highs and lows (honestly mostly highs…

Baby Wearing – Ring Sling & Twingo Carrier Reviews

The twins are 11 weeks old! Woohoo! So, I finally gave my Maya Wrap Ring Sling a try….and it’s kind of amazing. I watched a couple of YouTube videos and learned how to thread the ring, put on the sling, and place the baby. It was magical to be holding my baby hands-free!  Now I just need to figure out how to wear it with twins…  Update: I never wore the ring sling with 2 babies. I just felt like it was too experimental with precious little bodies to keep snug and secure!   So instead….behold the TWINGO carrier. It’s seriously a lifesaver! The twins are nearly 14 months old…

    Twin Birth Story

Well, it’s a month later, but the details on the birth of my 2 girls are as clear as ever, due to one main reason: C-section. The day had come and labor had not…I was at 38 weeks. The doctors did not want to wait any longer to get these babies out (just the protocol for twins at Duke University Hospital), and so the date had been set for December 11, 2018 for either induction of natural delivery if baby ‘A’ on bottom was in a head-down position OR Cesarean section if she was still breech or transverse. The frustrating part for me up until that point was that she…

    I’m back…with news!

Well hello there.  It’s only been, what….6 months since my last post?  Here’s why I decided to take a little break from the hobby blog: and BOOM. I’m suddenly very pregnant 🙂 It wasn’t really a decision to stop blogging; it just sort of happened. Unfortunately for this Balance Blog, here’s where it lies on the totem pole of priorities: 1)  Take care of Little C and her hard working daddy (make meals, clean house, errands, etc.) 2)  Write on the family blog (documentation–gotta do it!) 3) Fitness Fridays (yes, I’ve still been able to run the Friday workouts with my ladies! woot).  4) Be lazy in first trimester…and second…

    Our 12 Days of Christmas

THURSDAY THOUGHTS The past couple of days (as in, early December when I first started to write this post), I have spent some time looking into various Christmas activities, traditions, service opportunities, and tasty recipes to make our December extra merry & bright; I have always wanted to do a “12 Days of Christmas” filled with all of these exceptional things, while at the same time honing in on the true reason for the season–which we believe is to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Ideally, our 12 days of Christmas would have a Christ-focused approach while also being filled with several low-key activities intermingled with the spiritual…

    Gratitude vs. Giving Thanks

THURSDAY THOUGHTS Of course “Thursday Thoughts” falls on Thanksgiving…since it’s always on a Thursday…awesome! What better way to share a few thoughts than on Thanksgiving? 🙂 I’m just going to write whatever comes to mind, because I have SO much to be thankful for…AND to be GRATEFUL for! So what’s the difference, between being thankful and being grateful? Not much, but I thought it was intriguing enough to look into.According to Merriam-Webster, here are the separate definitions thank·ful  adjective ˈthaŋk-fəl : glad that something has happened or not happened, that something or someone exists, etc. : of, relating to, or expressing thanks Full Definition of THANKFUL 1 :  conscious of benefit received <for…

    Easy DIY Baby Blanket

THURSDAY THOUGHTS I finally thought I’d share my baby-blanket-making experience from a few months ago….back in April. I definitely needed to wait until after June to post this, since I was making 2 blankets–one for each sister-in-law, whose babies were both due in June and I didn’t want them to get a sneak peek of their gifts before I had a chance to give them 🙂 First off, let it be known that this was not only my first baby blanket, but also my very first self-monitored sewing project–which means, if I could do it, anyone can do it! Trust me! I followed this blog tutorial because it provided clear instructions…

Tricky Penguins & My 2-Faced Pumpkin

THURSDAY THOUGHTS Today I went with a friend to the Portland Zoo where they were celebrating the twin tigers’ 15th birthday along with a trick-or-treating party. We especially made it a point to visit the penguin exhibit! (We wanted to swing by the ducks in the Northwest division of the zoo since my friend’s baby was an Oregon Ducks cheerleader, but unfortunately the pathway to that section was closed due to construction). So, the big question here is… What’s so tricky about these penguins?  Meaning, the real penguins (although my toddler has a few tricks of her own) Here’s what the poster behind my little cutie says:  “The Humboldt penguins’…
